Steve Schwarzman
Net worth: ~$90B (Forbes, Aug 2026 estimate)
Who they are
Steve Schwarzman co-founded Blackstone in 1995 with James Silverstein and Peter Peterson and has served as its Chairman ever since. Blackstone is the world's largest alternative asset manager, with more than $1.3 trillion in assets under management across private equity, credit, real estate, and infrastructure. He built the firm from a real-estate buyout shop into a diversified global platform and remains its most visible leader.
Why they matter
Schwarzman is the figure most associated with the rise of the publicly listed private equity firm. His leadership of Blackstone's 2007 IPO set the template for sponsor-listing and has shaped how the industry raises capital from public markets. He is also one of PE's most prominent public voices, speaking regularly on markets, regulation, and geopolitics.
The AI angle
Blackstone is one of the largest investors in AI infrastructure: it is the world's biggest data-center operator through its Infrastructure division and, in June 2026, it and Apollo finalized a $35 billion financing package to expand AI computing capacity for Anthropic using Broadcom's custom chips. For PE professionals, Blackstone's AI play is the clearest example of a sponsor monetizing the physical layer of the AI buildout.
