Recapitalization
Restructuring a company's capital, usually by issuing new debt or equity to return cash to existing owners or to refinance existing debt. In PE, a recap can let sponsors recover part of their investment before a full exit.
Example
A sponsor might run a growth recap to return 30 percent of its original check to LPs.
