Josh Harris
Net worth: not publicly ranked
Who they are
Josh Harris co-founded Apollo Global Management in 1990 with Marc Rowan and Leon Black, and has served as its co-CEO since. Apollo has grown into one of the world's largest alternative asset managers, with more than $500 billion in assets under management across private equity, credit, real assets, and wealth. He was also a key figure in Apollo's 2010 take-private of the firm and its 2022 return to public markets.
Why they matter
Harris is one of the architects of modern Apollo and of the industry's shift toward private credit and real assets. His leadership during the 2020s credit expansion made Apollo a central counterparty in private markets, and his public commentary on fees, transparency, and the future of asset management is closely watched.
The AI angle
Apollo is one of the most AI-exposed major sponsors: it is a lead backer of OpenAI's compute buildout, and in 2026 it and Blackstone finalized a $35 billion financing package to expand AI computing capacity using Broadcom's custom chips. For PE professionals, Apollo is the clearest example of a sponsor betting the balance sheet on the AI infrastructure layer.
